[Steven knows a couple people who've died back home, or who are about to go through something terrible, so he understands why they'd want to stay here too. But that's kind of a downer turn for the conversation to take, so he'll try and turn it right back around again.]
How long have you been here already?

And it's even more of a downer when Phoenix thinks about how long he's been here.]
I... Hm. I think it's been about two years? Maybe a little more...
[He came just at the Nattensfest season, he recalls. Despite the fact that it was March back at home and Christmas had very recently happened.]
What about you?

Needless to say, an awed little "ooh" escapes him at the estimate.]
Nothing that long. Since last June, so that's... seven months? I mean, it is a pretty long time to be a cannibal monster, but compared to two years? Not that long.

[He has somewhat of a sad smile. Weary. It's not something he ever wanted to be used to, but... the human mind will always adjust.
He stirs some sugar into his tea idly.]
I guess any amount of time having to be here is pretty long in that sense. Several months... You've fully changed and all by now, haven't you?

[He points to his left temple, where an eye is just barely visible behind locks of curled hair.]
I had some proper vertigo those first few days. Four eyes means you see way more of your surroundings, you know? But I got used to it. I've met other nephilim who shot up a couple extra feet, but seems like I'm destined to be short next to all them. And that's fine, I s'pose- means I'm not in danger of hitting my head when I go through doors. Still a weird difference, though.

[Having extra eyes at the edges of his face would make learning how to see again really difficult.]
It's already been kind of a ride adjusting to my new bird sight. It's great to see detail from far away but... Yeah, it's a headache sometimes.
[He laughs somewhat softly and politely.]

[Unbeknownst to Steven, his tail has been twitching idly near the leg of his chair, and it's attracted the attention of a second cat. The kitty's sneaking closer from behind, wide eyes caught on the fluffy tip of the tail.]

Yeah, I guess I could if I really wanted to!
But it's not all the time... I have to really focus. But I guess it's kind of cool sometimes once you get used to it!
[He shifts his legs, crossing the other one this time.] So you kind of see the world through a fisheye perspective, right?

[The cat has moved into position! It's pressed down low to the ground, eyes still on the tail and ready to pounce. Steven still doesn't see it.]

[He gets a headache just from imagining all the constant vision changes.]
I only changed my form once, and that was when everyone seemed to randomly change with it. I did have to get used to having normal eyesight again, and then.... I had to go back to this.
[He sighs. There is a lot about this place to dislike.]
Oh! There was another time when a bunch of us seemed to change into desserts. My hair was.... pudding.
[Now he actually laughs.]

[He frowns, trying to process the mental image of all that, and why that would even happen. 'Dessert' is hardly a monster type. But then he remembers hearing a story vaguely like this.]
Oh... Was that back in the summer last year, maybe? When newcomers came in?
