Hey, don't worry about it. I didn't take offense to what you said, as far as I recall.

What happened where you weren't really yourself?

i was wearing a magical artifact that was influencing me. i was making it influence me, for personal reasons, but i was out of line to try and hurt people.

even if you didn't take offense, i was trying to get under your skin.

Oh... I see. [Yeah Phoenix has no idea how much to believe about the "magical artifact" but... He'll choose to believe it for now.]

[Ha ha ha. Ryou is not the one who's gonna bring up their fight. Maybe it's cowardly, or selfish, but that's not what he's apologizing for now, or possibly even ever. A promise is a promise--he has to take care of himself on that matter, and not just throw the whole gesture away.]

i don't think i'm a nice kid though. you ought to be careful with that mentality, Mr. Wright. in case you run into someone really spiteful.

[And that makes him all the more suspicious of Ryou. In fact, his feelings on Ryou are overall very mixed, dating back to that broadcast incident.]

It's just hard to judge anyone these days when we're all forced to eat humans to survive, and every other month there's some mind-altering drugs int he water or something.

i'm tired of judging people myself. so many of us suffer, quietly or otherwise. we all have reasons for what we choose to do, including eating, as you say.

i hope that nothing else too terrible happens. not for a while. everyone deserves to rest, and i didn't make that easy for them.

what i mean is...what happened during the middle of the month.

that was my doing. i hadn't intended it to affect everyone, just the fourth god and his followers. but it went out of control.

I don't really know what to say. That was pretty bad and irresponsible of you. The Fourth followers didn't deserve that either.

I don't like either one of the gods but I feel like every time someone tries to act against one of them, some horrible things go down.

Why do you support the Fog so much anyway, just out of curiosity?

The Fog gives me strength. I need that strength to protect myself, and my friends, because otherwise I'm nothing but a burden.

I paid the price, more than once, for my weakness. And then I paid the price for that strength too, for better or for worse. Maybe you don't think the Fourth followers deserve it, but their justifications don't breed sympathy in me, Mr. Wright.

And they have no sympathy for someone who doesn't adhere to their god either. Even if their god insinuates that people like me are broken. Even before I followed the Fog, the Fourth god called me tainted just for having friends that weren't on his side.

...I'll have to live with what I've done. If other people choose not to tolerate it, they're within their rights, but...I can't take it back.

[Phoenix reads this and suddenly it becomes far clearer why Maya had joined the Fog. I'm nothing but a burden. His heart aches when he reads it.]

I understand that it's not fun feeling weak or like a burden. But violently assaulting others is not the answer. That makes you weak in spirit. I don't think anyone deserves this kind of thing, whether they're Fog followers or Fourth followers.

What are you trying to accomplish?
